Academic Background

Master of Arts in Eastern Classics from St. John's Graduate Institute in Santa Fé, New Mexico. St. John's is a "great books" program, meaning students read a canon of primary sources with no reference to secondary sources. This approach has its advantages and disadvantages, which I can go into if you poke me about it. In addition to reading East and South Asian classics, I also learned classical Chinese there.

Bachelor of Arts in Religion with minors in Dance and English Literature from Swarthmore College in Swarthmore, Pennsylvania. My favorite topics in religion were West African and Afro-Atlantic religion (òrìṣà- and vodun-based traditions) and the relationship between religion and comic books. In dance, I focused on capoeira and kathak primarily, but I also tried choreography and modern and African dance. In English lit, I mostly studied poetry.

Drawing from this background, I do cultural consulting and editing for creative projects. If you need someone to look over your work and make sure that your treatment of racial, cultural, or religious topics checks out, I will do so for free. If I can't figure out the answer myself, I'll refer you to someone who can.
